Introduction

MEP is a multinational company specializing in the construction of metal sawing machines; it produces many different models in various locations.

The company found that maintaining many different control solutions would increase development demands and times, and also decrease reliability, so it looked for a single solution for all its machines.

This solution was supposed to enable remote diagnostics and machine networking. It also needed to support the modular construction of components that could be assembled together only upon shipment to the customer.

Solution

ISAC offered its own ARM processor-based PAC.

The solution enables networking of the device, execution of a programmable control law and an HMI in various languages, all in the same device.

The axes can also be controlled in pulse/direction for stepper axes, which allows you to optimize performance for step axes and reach, sometimes exceed, the nominal characteristics of the motors. Furthermore, the CAN interface allows you to interface with third-party drives.

With integrated DCS functionality and a low price per unit, each component of the machine contains a device that controls all its parts, and then communicates with the central unit via a network, so the machine can be configured as the components are assembled.
